Most people pricing a crane start with the same question: how much is crane hire per day? The honest answer is that there is no single day rate. Two jobs with the same crane can be priced very differently, because what you pay depends on the lift itself, how long the crane stays, who operates and rigs it, and what it takes to get it onto your site.

The short answer
Crane hire cost comes down to five things: capacity at your radius, hire duration, operator and rigging, mobilisation and site access, and lift planning and permits. Get those right in your enquiry and you can compare quotes properly. Leave them out and any price you are given is an estimate.
1. Crane capacity, measured at your radius
A crane’s tonnage rating is its maximum capacity under ideal conditions, close to the crane with the boom short. The further the load is from the crane, the less it can lift. A crane rated at 50 tonnes may only be able to lift a fraction of that at the radius your site actually needs.
That is why pricing starts with the lift, not the crane. To size it correctly a supplier needs:
- Load weight, including rigging gear
- Radius, the horizontal distance from where the crane can set up to where the load lands
- Lift height, to the point of placement
- Site conditions, including ground, obstructions and where the crane can stand

2. Hire duration
How long the crane is on site changes the rate structure, not just the total:
- Daily hire has the highest rate per day. It suits one-off lifts and short installations.
- Weekly hire usually brings the cost per day down.
- Monthly hire gives the lowest effective rate, and suits cranes that stay on a project for structural work or repeated lifts.

3. Operator, rigger and banksman
A crane quote is only comparable if you know what labour it includes. At Amirah, mobile cranes are supplied with a certified operator, and rigging and banksman support can be arranged with your lift plan. When comparing suppliers, check whether each quote includes the operator, whether rigging crew is included or extra, and how working hours are defined.
4. Mobilisation and site access
Getting the crane to site is part of the cost. The main factors are:
- Distance. Our cranes are based in Mussafah, so sites in Mussafah, ICAD and across Abu Dhabi are the simplest to mobilise. We also deliver to Dubai and Sharjah, where mobilisation is planned further ahead.
- Crane size. Larger cranes can need extra transport, for example for counterweights, which adds to mobilisation.
- Access. Gate restrictions, working-hour limits and ground preparation all affect set-up time.
5. Lift planning, permits and controlled sites
Some sites add cost before the crane lifts anything. ADNOC facilities, ports and other controlled-access sites need CICPA passes, gate approvals and HSE documentation for the equipment and operator. How to keep crane hire cost down
- Send the real numbers. Load weight, radius and height give you an accurately sized crane instead of a cautious, oversized one.
- Group your lifts. One well-planned hire costs less than several short mobilisations.
- Ask for longer-term pricing. Weekly or monthly terms often beat accumulated daily rates.

- Prepare the site. Clear access and firm ground avoid waiting time on the day.
